Summary
The Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the office of the Dean of Student Affairs and the NTR Library, VFSTR, organized a thought-provoking guest lecture series on the theme “Mahatma Gandhi’s Life, Thoughts and Legacy/Selected Readings of Padma Vibhushan Prof. Kotta Satchidananda Murthy.” Held at Sangamam Hall, VFSTR, this event attracted distinguished faculty members from across Vignan Group institutions, each sharing insights and interpretations on the profound impact of Gandhi’s philosophy and legacy. To honor their contributions, the most impactful speakers would be felicitated during the Gandhi Jayanti celebration on October 2, acknowledging their valuable perspectives on the timeless values of Gandhi and Prof. Murthy.

About Guest Lecture
The guest lecture series provided a rich tapestry of discussions centered around Mahatma Gandhi’s life, thoughts, and legacy, framed through the lens of the esteemed Padma Vibhushan Prof. Kotta Satchidananda Murthy. Each speaker brought unique perspectives, delving into various aspects of Gandhi’s philosophy and its relevance today. This collaborative effort attracted faculty from the Vignan Group, fostering an environment of intellectual exchange and reflection on Gandhi's enduring impact. Mr. Sree Raghu Ram opened the series with an analytical study on the need for a three-fold metaphysical philosophy articulated by Dr. Kotha Satchidananda Murthy. He emphasized how this framework can deepen our understanding of spiritual and philosophical dimensions, resonating with Gandhi's quest for truth and understanding the interconnectedness of life. Following this, Dr. Siva Shankar Mandal presented insights into Gandhi's principles of truth and non-violence, illustrating how these ideals have shaped social movements globally and continue to inspire contemporary discourse on ethical leadership and activism. Dr. Sujatha Lakshmi highlighted the theme of women empowerment through Gandhi's ideology, exploring how his teachings can be applied to address modern gender issues. She articulated that Gandhi’s approach advocates for the strength and agency of women, thereby promoting social justice and equality. Mr. Abhinav Deep Dora expanded on the importance of Gandhian ideologies in today’s context, asserting that Gandhi’s vision remains vital in addressing global challenges such as conflict resolution and sustainable development, thus reinforcing the relevance of his thoughts in the contemporary world. The series further explored philosophical dimensions, with Dr. Gomatam Mohana Charyulu examining Prof. Satchidananda Murthy's insights through the perspective of Sri Vishishtadvaita, emphasizing practical wisdom in philosophy. Mr. Ravi Kiran Ch discussed how Murthy's integral approach to Indian philosophy bridges traditional values with modern thought, fostering a dialogue between the two. Dr. D Adam conducted a sociological exploration of caste in Prof. Satchidananda Murthy's work, highlighting the socio-political implications of his ideas. Finally, Dr. Reema's talk, titled “The Invisible Superhero,” showcased the pedagogic influence of Gandhian ideals through the lens of the film "Lag Rahe Ho Munna Bhai," while Dr. Santhosh Raju concluded with a discussion on how Murthy's writings advocate for Gandhi's ideologies, emphasizing their transformative potential in society. Overall, the series enriched participants' understanding of Gandhi's multifaceted legacy and its implications for contemporary issues.
