Understanding the POCSO Act: The session commenced with an in-depth presentation on the POCSO Act, exploring its purpose, legal framework, and the protective measures it provides to children against sexual exploitation. ProBOno’s legal experts emphasized how the law ensures a child-friendly environment during legal proceedings and the importance of swift, sensitive interventions in cases of abuse.
Children’s Rights and Legal Protections: The participants were educated on the rights guaranteed under the POCSO Act, including the right to protection, safety, and access to justice. The session focused on how children can report abuse, access support, and participate in legal proceedings without fear of retribution.
Role of Educators, Parents, and Gender Sensitization: The program stressed the responsibility of teachers and parents in creating a safe environment for children. Teachers were educated on the signs of abuse and their duty to report cases of suspected exploitation. ProBOno’s team underscored that legal aid is a fundamental right for every individual, especially for those who cannot afford professional legal assistance. The students were informed about the various legal aid services available to them, how to access these resources, and the importance of supporting such initiatives for the benefit of marginalized groups. The session also encouraged students to spread awareness about legal aid and advocate for those in need.

Students and faculty from Vignan’s Institute of Law contributed by offering valuable insights, answering questions, and encouraging a deeper understanding of the legal mechanisms in place to protect children and promote justice.
Prevention and Support Resources: ProBono Club provided the students with a wealth of information on how to seek help if they encounter any unsafe situations.
