Summary
The lecture began with Dr. T. Pitchaiah, Head of the Department, introducing the guest speaker Dr. Shaik Abdul Azeem, followed by a brief note from Mr. Sunil Tej, Faculty Coordinator. Dr. Azeem started by describing the cardiovascular system’s essential role in transporting blood, nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and hormones throughout the body. He outlined the three major components of the system: Heart – The central pumping organ located in the mediastinum, consisting of four chambers (two atria and two ventricles) separated by valves to ensure unidirectional blood flow. Blood Vessels – The network of arteries, veins, and capillaries that transport blood between the heart and body tissues. Blood – The circulating medium carrying oxygen, nutrients, and waste materials. He elaborated on the three types of circulation: Pulmonary Circulation – Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation and returns oxygenated blood back to the heart. Systemic Circulation – Delivers oxygenated blood from the heart to all body tissues and returns deoxygenated blood. Coronary Circulation – Supplies oxygen and nutrients directly to the heart muscle. Dr. Azeem also discussed common cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, and heart attack, highlighting the importance of regular exercise, balanced diet, and stress management to maintain heart health. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where students clarified their doubts and expressed interest in learning more about human physiology and medical applications.

About Guest Lecture
The Department of Biomedical Engineering organized a special lecture on the Cardiovascular System for second-year students under the course Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology. The session was delivered by Dr. Shaik Abdul Azeem, MBBS, Medical Officer at VFSTR, and coordinated by Dr. T. Pitchaiah (HOD) and Mr. Sunil Tej (Faculty Coordinator). Dr. Azeem provided a clear and engaging overview of the cardiovascular system, explaining its structure, function, and significance in maintaining overall body health. Students learned about the heart, blood vessels, and blood, and their interdependent roles in the circulation of oxygen, nutrients, and waste materials. The lecture helped students understand both the anatomical and physiological aspects of the cardiovascular system and emphasized the importance of preventing cardiovascular diseases through healthy lifestyle practices. Overall, the session was highly informative, interactive, and well appreciated by the students.
