Summary
The Dr. LARA Centre for Energy Materials, in association with the Department of Chemistry, School of Applied Sciences & Humanities, successfully organized a guest lecture on 27 December 2025. The lecture was delivered by Prof. Vishnu Shanker, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, on the topic “Photocatalysis at the Energy Interface: Materials Design and Emerging Applications.” The program commenced with a brief welcome and introduction of the invited speaker. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. N. Srinivasu, Dean, School of Applied Sciences & Humanities, and Prof. K. Prabhakara Rao, Head, Department of Chemistry. The guest lecture was coordinated by Dr. Ravi Kumar Kottalanka, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry. Faculty members of the Department of Chemistry, research scholars, and first- and second-year M.Sc. Chemistry students actively participated in the event. In his lecture, Prof. Vishnu Shanker provided an in-depth overview of the fundamental principles involved in the design and synthesis of photoactive catalysts. He emphasized the significance of photocatalysis in addressing pressing environmental issues and advancing sustainable energy technologies.

About Guest Lecture
The lecture highlighted recent developments in energy materials, focusing on applications such as water splitting, pollutant degradation, and renewable energy generation. The session was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participation from research scholars and postgraduate students. The participants gained valuable insights into design strategies for efficient photocatalysts, understanding structure–property relationships, and developing novel photoactive materials for environmental remediation and energy applications. Following the lecture, Prof. Vishnu Shanker visited various research centers established at the university. He appreciated the research infrastructure at VFSTR and expressed that the university is placing strong emphasis on research facilities, advanced instrumentation, and funding support. He particularly acknowledged the focused development of research centers in emerging areas such as energy materials, nanocatalysis, sustainable polymers (design and development), and advanced organic molecules for bio-investigational studies. Overall, the guest lecture was academically enriching and informative, providing exposure to current research trends in photocatalysis and energy materials. The program significantly benefited students and researchers by enhancing their knowledge of emerging applications and motivating further research in the field. Objectives: • To provide exposure to recent advancements in photocatalysis with a focus on materials design at the energy interface and emerging applications. • To enhance understanding of the design and synthesis of photoactive materials for addressing environmental challenges and sustainable energy solutions. • To bridge theoretical concepts with current research practices, enabling students and research scholars to understand structure–property relationships in photocatalytic materials. • To motivate postgraduate students and research scholars to pursue research in energy materials and photocatalysis by interacting with an expert from a premier research institution.
