The inaugural technical lecture was delivered by M. Vishnu Vardhana Rao, Officiating Vice Chancellor, Indian Institute of Public Health, and Former Director, Indian Council of Medical Research. The talk highlighted statistics as the backbone of AI and big data, with emphasis on model reliability, interpretability, and uncertainty quantification.
2. Data Analytics for Engineers – Fostering Sustainable Decision-Making
Dr. S. Yadavendra Babu explained how data analytics tools support engineers in achieving sustainability, efficiency, and cost optimization through practical engineering case studies.
3. Choosing Appropriate Statistical Tools for Decision Making
Dr. Sudheesh Kumar K. from Indian Statistical Institute discussed the importance of selecting statistical methods based on data characteristics, objectives, and assumptions.
4. Use of Overlap Indices in Analyzing Health and Climate Data
Prof. Somesh Kumar, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, introduced overlap indices and demonstrated their usefulness in health and climate data analysis.
5. Role of Statistics in Data Science
Prof. R. Vishnu Vardhan from Pondicherry Central University elaborated on the indispensable role of statistics in data science pipelines and analytical reasoning.
6. AI-Driven Inventory Optimization for Sustainable Engineering
Prof. R. Sivasamy, University of Botswana, presented AI-based inventory models aimed at enhancing sustainability in industrial supply chains.
7. Empirical Likelihood Based Confidence Intervals
Prof. Asokan M. V. from Memorial University of Newfoundland discussed advanced empirical likelihood methods for statistical inference.
8. Data Analytics and Data Science – Concepts and Industry Use Cases
Mr. E. Vamsi Krishna, Synechron, Hyderabad, shared industry-focused insights supported by real-world data science case studies. Also incorporated hands-on practice sessions, enabling participants to work with real datasets, analytical software, and AI/ML workflows.
9. Learning to Apply Data Science and AI – An Illustrated Overview
Dr. Arun K. T. from Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati provided an accessible overview of applying AI and data science techniques across domains.
10. Exploring the Innovation of Machine Learning Algorithms – From Theory to Practice
Dr. Hemanth Kumar T. of Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy concluded the workshop with insights into modern machine learning algorithms and their practical implementation.
Organization and Participation
The workshop was organized under the effective convenorship of Dr. P. Kalpana and Dr. K. Kalyani, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, VFSTR. Their academic leadership and coordination ensured seamless execution of the program.
A total of 307 participants registered for the workshop, including 84 faculty members, 41 research scholars, and 182 students. The participants represented 65 institutions from 14 states across India, along with three international universities, underscoring the workshop’s wide reach and academic significance.
