Summary
In December 1900, Max Planck proposed that energy is not an infinitely divisible quantity but is composed of well-defined, discrete equal parts. By introducing Planck’s Constant () and the formula, Planck established the concept of quantization. This shift is often illustrated by comparing potential energy: in classical mechanics, it increases like a continuous ramp, whereas in quantum mechanics, it increases like a series of discrete steps.

About Guest Lecture
The sources characterize scientific progress not as a linear accumulation of knowledge, but through paradigm shifts that fundamentally change how we think and act. Historical examples include the transitions from Nicolaus Copernicus’s heliocentric model to Isaac Newton’s laws of universal gravitation, and finally to the quantum revolution led by Max Planck.
