The Department of Biotechnology, accredited by NBA and ABET offers state-of-the-art facilities tailored for contemporary teaching and research. The department has well equipped lecture halls, a department library, and specialized laboratories including an Advanced Research Centre (ARC) for Bio-resource Utilization. The classrooms equipped with blackboards, digital smart board with Wi-Fi, facilitate seamless learning. The advanced laboratory instruments, such as HPLC, fermenter(s), ELISA reader, and PCR machine(s), high computing workstation, support diverse fields of Biotechnology and bioinformatics. Additionally, specialized spaces like clean room for cell culture and BSL-II promote cutting-edge research and innovation.

Biochemistry and Cell Culture
The Biochemistry and Cell Culture facility specializes in the quantification of biological molecules such as enzymes, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, proteins, and amino acids in various samples, along with in vitro analysis of bioactive leads against selected cell lines. Equipped with advanced instruments such as laminar airflow chamber, CO incubator, inverted microscope, and Vis-spectrophotometer, complemented by a table-top centrifuge and water bath for essential lab processes. A dedicated clean room facility further supports contamination-free research, ensuring high-quality results. This well-equipped lab plays a crucial role in advancing biotechnological and pharmaceutical research.
Microbiology and Fermentation Technology
The Microbiology and Fermentation Technology Laboratory is an essential facility for biotechnology engineering graduates, providing hands-on training in microbial characterization and fermentation processes. It allows students to simulate industrial-scale shake flask fermentation and optimize bacterial growth under controlled conditions. The lab is well-equipped with BSL-II containment, an orbital shaker, a 4°C refrigerator, a water bath, a hot air oven, a Soxhlet apparatus, and a fermenter for microbial cultivation. These advanced tools enable students to characterize bacterial morphology, operate microscopes with differential staining techniques and independently conduct fermentation experiments, preparing them for real-world bioprocess applications.
Molecular Biology & Genetic Enginering
The Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering Lab focuses on the isolation, amplification, and elution of DNA fragments for genetic analysis. Equipped with advanced instruments like a thermal cycler, refrigerated microfuge, orbital shaking incubator, SDS-PAGE system, -20°C deep freezer, and Western blot apparatus, it supports precise molecular experiments. Students gain hands-on experience in buffer preparation, DNA amplification, and protein separation, essential for biotechnological research and applications.
Plant Tissue Culture and Algal Technologies
The Plant Tissue Culture and Algae Research Facility supports in vitro propagation of medicinal and endangered plants and facilitates algal research on biomass improvement and value-added productsThe Plant Tissue Culture and Algae Research Facility supports in vitro propagation of medicinal and endangered plants and facilitates algal research on biomass improvement and value-added products. Equipped with a laminar airflow chamber, refrigerator, autoclave, tissue culture racks with illuminated shelves, and an LPG burner for sterile conditions, it enables precision in plant and algae studies. Students gain hands-on experience in surface sterilization, callus induction, in situ conservation and secondary metabolite screening, essential for biotechnological research and conservation efforts.
General Facilities
Department of biotechnology has a separate computational facility with 60 computers for teaching, training, and research related to biotechnology and bioinformatics. In addition to this, faculty are provided with Desktop Computer/Laptop facility to pursue the academic activities of the Program. A dedicated 1 GBPS Internet connection is available to meet the growing needs of staff and students and to pursue their academic and research activities.
Plant Tissue Culture
The Plant Tissue Culture facility focuses on micropropagation of medicinal and endangered plants, using sterile techniques like callus induction and shoot regeneration.

The Biochemistry and Cell Culture Lab offers hands-on experience with techniques for analyzing proteins and nucleic acids, equipped with tools like incubators and microscopes. The Microbiology and Fermentation Technology Lab trains students in microbiological methods and fermentation processes, using equipment such as autoclaves and fermenters. The Plant Tissue Culture and Algal Technology Lab focuses on plant propagation and algal technologies, featuring sterile environments and various growth chambers for practical learning.









International Accreditation Organization - IAO
Vignan’s Foundation for Science, Technology, and Research (Vignan) met the accreditation requirements of the International Accreditation Organization (IAO) and was granted full accreditation.
