Summary
Title: Effects of Intraocular Pressure Fluctuations in Glaucomatous Eyes Date: 11-10-2025 Venue: VTF-15 Speaker: Ms. Kinnera Khareedu, Ph.D. Scholar, University of South Florida, Tampa, USA The Department of Biomedical Engineering organized a lecture on “Effects of Intraocular Pressure Fluctuations in Glaucomatous Eyes” on October 11, 2025, at VTF-15. The session was delivered by Ms. Kinnera Khareedu, an alumna of VFSTR and a current doctoral student in Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Florida. Ms. Khareedu shared her academic and professional journey—from her undergraduate studies at VFSTR to her international internship in Singapore, followed by her master’s and Ph.D. research in the U.S. She discussed her ongoing research under Dr. Christopher Passaglia, focusing on wireless telemetry-based continuous intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring, short-term IOP variability, and its effects on retinal ganglion cells in glaucoma models. She emphasized the importance of mastering fundamentals, gaining hands-on research experience, and maintaining ethics and transparency in scientific work. The lecture also covered advanced techniques for IOP measurement, integration of patented technologies, and the role of circadian rhythms in glaucoma progression. Ms. Khareedu offered practical advice to students about preparing for higher studies abroad, including application strategies, research internships, and skill development. She encouraged active participation in research, teamwork, and collaboration, highlighting the value of university support for conference presentations and research exposure. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students clarified doubts on research methods and teamwork strategies. The Head of Department appreciated Ms. Khareedu for her insightful lecture and valuable guidance. Overall, the lecture was highly informative, offering students technical knowledge, academic motivation, and a deeper understanding of international research practices in biomedical sciences.
