Overview
The UEAC Unit of VFSTR, established in 2009, evolved from Vignan's Engineering College NSS unit to inspire students towards community service. These initiatives instill social responsibility in future engineers and strengthen VFSTR's community ties through various extension activities. The unit received a Silver Medal from the Indian Red Cross Society, awarded by the Honorable Governor of Andhra Pradesh in 2016. Over the past six years, the UEAC has organized blood donation camps, tree plantations, special camps, visits to old age homes and orphanages, fundraising for armed forces and flood victims, and various awareness days. They also support adopted schools with health checkups, academic classes, infrastructure, and hygienic food during exams.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA)
Envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi in "Hind Swaraj," the Western developmental paradigm, rooted in centralised technologies and urbanisation, has led to challenges like growing inequality and climate change. Addressing these requires fostering rural development in line with Gandhi's vision of self-sufficient "village republics" using local resources and decentralised, eco-friendly technologies. This approach aims to meet essential local needs, promoting sustainable development. Currently, 70% of India's population resides in rural areas, primarily engaged in agriculture, which employs 51% of the workforce but contributes only 17% to the GDP. Significant disparities between rural and urban sectors in health, education, income, amenities, and employment drive migration to cities. Sustainable development necessitates eco-friendly rural development and local employment opportunities, as unchecked urbanisation is unsustainable. Professional higher education institutions have historically focused on the industrial sector, offering little to rural development. The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is a crucial initiative for comprehensive rural development.

History
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan was conceptualised by a group of IIT Delhi faculty members specialising in rural development and appropriate technology. The concept evolved through extensive consultations with representatives from technical institutions, RTAG coordinators, voluntary organisations, and government agencies during a national workshop at IIT Delhi in September 2014, sponsored by CAPART, Ministry of Rural Development. The Ministry of Education formally inaugurated the program on November 11, 2014, with the President of India presiding.
Objective
To engage the faculty and students of Higher Educational Institutions in understanding rural realities.
To identify & select existing innovative technologies, enable customization of technologies, or devise implementation methods for innovative solutions, as per the local needs.
To leverage the knowledge base of the educational institutions for effective implementation of various government programmes
Mission
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India and to have a paradigm shift in academic and research programs of the country.
Vision
Establish coordination among educational institutions, implementation agencies, and grassroots stakeholders for effective field intervention.
Select rural clusters for holistic development using sustainable technologies and local resources, creating employment and leveraging government schemes. Reorient academic curricula and research programs in higher educational institutions to address contemporary needs and enhance student understanding of village and societal issues.
Events
UEAC has organised blood donation camps, tree plantations, special camps, visits to old age homes and orphanages, fundraising for armed forces and flood victims, and various awareness days.
