On March 22, 2025, the Centre for Environmental Pollution Control (CEPC), in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry and Civil Engineering at Vignan's Foundation for Science, Technology, and Research (VFSTR), organized a one-day symposium on "Sustainable Water Resource Management" to celebrate World Water Day and conclude the World Water Day Week Celebrations. The event focused on this year's United Nation's theme of "Glacier Preservation," emphasizing the urgent need for water conservation and sustainable practices.

The symposium commenced with a warm welcome by the convenor, Prof. A. Siva Sankar, who greeted the participants and distinguished speakers. Eminent speakers K. Subbaraya Sastry, Joint Director of the AP Command Area Development Authority, and Prof. P.J. Ratnakar, Head of the Department of Geology at Acharya Nagarjuna University and member of the AP Pollution Control Board, delivered insightful lectures. They highlighted the significance of water conservation, particularly focusing on the role of glaciers in maintaining global water balance and climate stability.

Dr. Shubhalakshmi Sengupta, Coordinator of CEPC, provided an overview of the World Water Week celebrations (March 17-22), which included a guest lecture by environmentalist Bhargavi S. Rao, awareness campaigns in Guntur and Prodigy Vidyalaya School, and student competitions at VFSTR. These activities aimed to engage the community and young minds in understanding the critical challenges associated with water conservation.

Prof. Koya Prabhakara Rao, Head of the Department of Chemistry, spoke about the importance of research and technological advancements in water conservation. Additionally, Prof. N. Srinivasu, Dean of SASH and Director of CEPC, emphasized the role of education and public awareness in addressing water-related issues.

The event concluded with the awarding of prizes to the winners of student competitions, followed by the screening of a student-created video promoting World Water Day awareness. The symposium successfully fostered discussions on sustainable water resource management, reinforcing the need for collective efforts in preserving one of the planet's most vital resources.
