Summary
Dr. Raju Chowan's lecture on " Strategies in Asymmetric Synthesis of Bioactive Natural Product " was an advanced academic session that explored recent innovations in the field of asymmetric organic synthesis. He began by discussing the importance of stereochemistry in drug discovery and development, emphasizing that many natural products and pharmaceutical compounds possess multiple chiral centers, making their synthesis a challenging yet rewarding task. Dr. Chowhan elaborated on the development and application of chlorosulfide intermediates, highlighting their potential in enantioselective synthesis. He presented detailed case studies from his research, showcasing how these intermediates can be effectively used to synthesize a wide range of complex molecules with high stereocontrol. Throughout the lecture, he also introduced the audience to modern catalytic strategies, including organocatalysis and transition-metal catalysis, which are critical for achieving selectivity and efficiency in synthetic transformations. In addition to the technical details, Dr. Chowhan provided insights into current trends in green chemistry and sustainable practices in synthetic research. He also discussed the broader impact of synthetic methodology development on pharmaceutical and material science industries. The session not only bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications but also inspired young researchers to explore cutting-edge research in synthetic organic chemistry. The event concluded with an engaging discussion where students and faculty members clarified their doubts and explored future research directions.

About Guest Lecture
The Department of Chemistry organized a guest lecture on " Strategies in Asymmetric Synthesis of Bioactive Natural Products " on 15th July 2025 at 2:00 PM in VBT1A. The session was aimed at expanding students ' and researchers ' understanding of advanced synthetic strategies in modern organic chemistry. The guest speaker for this event was Dr. L. Raju Chowhan, Associate Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, who is renowned for his expertise in the development of novel synthetic methodologies. The session began with a formal welcome and introduction by the faculty of the Department of Chemistry. Dr. Chowan's lecture focused on the rational design and development of synthetic strategies for the construction of architecturally complex molecules, particularly in the domain of asymmetric synthesis. He emphasized the use of chlorosulfide intermediates, showcasing their significance in constructing stereochemically defined bioactive compounds. The talk was well-received and attended by faculty members, research scholars, and M.Sc. Chemistry students. The interactive nature of the lecture provided attendees with valuable insights into the practical and theoretical aspects of modern synthetic organic chemistry. Following the lecture, Prof. K. Prabhakara Rao, Head of the Department, felicitated Dr. Chowhan with a shawl and memento as a token of appreciation, joined by all faculty members. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and was considered a great success.
