A Two-day Road Safety Awareness Campaign

Summary
The first day of the campaign was conducted at a major junction in Guntur by B. Tech second-year students. Faculty members and officials from the Transport Department briefed the participants on the objectives of road safety awareness and effective methods of interacting with the public. Students displayed placards to promote helmet and seat belt usage; discourage drunk driving, mobile phone use while driving, and over-speeding; and spread awareness about traffic signals, driving licenses, and proper number plates. The second day was conducted at another busy traffic junction in Guntur, with active participation from B. Tech third-year students. The high traffic flow enabled meaningful interaction with commuters and reinforced the importance of traffic rule compliance and safe road behavior. The campaign received a positive response from the public, and students showed great enthusiasm in contributing to this initiative. Overall, the program strengthened student awareness and institutional collaboration, making it a meaningful and impactful educational activity.

About Workshop
The Department of Civil Engineering at VFSTR, in collaboration with the Transport Department of Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, organized a two-day Road Safety Awareness Campaign with the objective of promoting safe and responsible road user behavior. The campaign was coordinated by Dr. A. V. A. Bharat Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, along with the District Transport Commissioner, Shri K. Sita Ramireddy. Road safety is a crucial component of transportation engineering, and the campaign served as an effective platform for community-oriented learning. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from B. Tech second- and third-year civil engineering students, with valuable support from Ph.D. scholars and laboratory technicians. Although second-year students have not yet formally studied transportation engineering. The campaign provided them with early exposure to real-world road safety challenges. Third-year students, having completed the subject, were able to relate classroom knowledge to actual traffic conditions and practices.
