History

The Ministry of Education suggested a single engineering entrance test in February 2010 as "A common system for common admission into professional institutions throughout the country." Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test was one of the names suggested (ISEET). It was designed to replace a variety of current tests, including the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE)

The exam's first year was supposed to cover admissions to government-supported institutions, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), and certain declared universities. The test was to be implemented in 2013 according to the ministry's decision on May 20, 2012. Some state governments have already said that they would not participate in the exam, at least for the first year, unless concerns, mostly regarding the languages in which the exam will be offered, or addressed. The All India IIT Faculty Federation (AIIITFF) and the Indian Institutes of Technology Alumni Association both expressed serious resistance to the plan, citing worries about IITs losing their admissions autonomy.

The need for a common admission exam is based on the following factors.

• In India, several engineering institutions are known for charging a capitation fee.
• A uniform admission exam will save students and parents money on application forms and prospectuses for numerous engineering institutions, which they would otherwise have to pay for. Another benefit is the cost savings associated with travel expenditures for multiple admission examinations.
• Transparency in the publication of entrance exam rankings and engineering college admissions.
• One of the primary reasons for the desire for a uniform engineering examination is the introduction of the NEET medical entrance exam. The new universal engineering admission exam might be administered more than once each year.

Possible Pattern of Common Engineering Entrance Test

• Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are likely to be the same. For the common engineering entrance test, a syllabus that is comparable to the JEE Main syllabus can be used.
• There was also talk about making JEE Main mandatory for all engineering students, rather than the multiple State CETs and private college entrance exams. [According to sources]

• Conducting and administering a single exam at the national level may result in mistakes and mismanagement on numerous fronts and a delay in the rank list, causing a delay in the admission process. As a result, suitable resources should be employed to avoid this.
• Conducting this test will result in the Central Government having complete authority over the system, with the State Government playing a minor part. Giving power to the central government may not be helpful to pupils in rural parts of the state, as state quotas may be eliminated or decreased.
